About Edmunds County Tribune

The Edmunds County Tribune has been part of Ipswich since it was founded in 1883.

The first owners, A.B. Chubbuck and D.B. Worthington, started the Dakota Tribune in May of 1883 in Freeport, a small town that is no longer on the map. The publishers moved to Ipswich in September of 1883.

During its history the Tribune has had several owners, including Ipswich pioneer J.W. Parmley. At one time Ipswich had two newspapers, the Edmunds County Tribune and Edmunds County Democrat, owned by Frank Tracy. Tracy bought the Tribune and combined the papers in 1927. Frank Tracy was the uncle of actor Spencer Tracy, who spent some summers in the Ipswich area when he was young.

Jim and Fran Morlock purchased the Tribune in 1976. They also published the Roscoe-Hosmer Independent.

Dwain Gibson purchased the papers in 1984. He and his wife Tena have published the newspapers since then.
