The state high school 'B' golf boys and girls tournament was held in Watertown, South Dakota on June 4 and 5. Ipswich was represented by Halie Feldman in the girls' tournament at Prairie Winds Golf Course. Dylan Northrop, Ethan Gilbert, Luke Peterson and Kaden Boettcher competed on the boys' side at Cattail Crossings Golf Course.

The first day of the tournament was filled with a lot of excitement, but also a lot of wind. Halie carded a 103 on day one, which was an excellent score considering the wind and how fast the greens were rolling.

On the boys' side, Dylan shot the low round of the day for the Ipswich team with an 83, followed by Ethan with an 84, Luke 95 and Kaden with a 121. After the first day of play, the boys' team was sitting fifth overall. Dylan and Ethan both earned a spot in one of the top flights for Tuesday.

As the sun rose on the second day of golf, the winds were calm and the temperature was rising. Halie shot a solid round with a 109, but fell short of placing in the top 25. Overall Halie had a strong showing for a freshman golfer at her first state golf tournament. She showed tremendous pose and handled the pressure extremely well.

Luke started the charge on day two at 8:30 with a small army of Ipswich fans following him. After his first nine holes of play, he was three over par and placed the Ipswich team in the driver's seat to make the awards stand. Luke signed his score card after his eighteen holes of golf with an 81, which was fourteen strokes better than day one. Dylan, Ethan and Kaden took the steering wheel from there. Kaden golfed his best round of the tournament and improved his score by ten strokes, shooting a 111. Dylan and Ethan continued to grind it out against the rising temperatures and heightened pressure of golfing in the top flights. Ethan opened the second day with four straight pars. At the half way point, he was three over par for a 39 on the front nine holes. He finished the round with an 83 which earned him a medal and placed him 20th overall. Dylan was the last one off the course, which was fitting since he was the sole senior from Ipswich. He started off slow on his front nine holes shooting a 44, but bounced back with a 39 on the back nine holes. With Dylan's 83, he finished 17th overall and helped Ipswich place 5th overall as a team.

Dylan finished his golfing career just as he started it, as a member of a state placing team. Dylan competed on the 2015 golf team that placed 7th, 2016 golf team that placed 4th, 2017 golf team that placed 2nd and the 2018 golf team that placed 5th. He is one of a very few Ipswich athletes that can lay claim to that accomplishment.

The 2018 golf season was filled with numerous opportunities. Opportunities to overcome weather, a shortened season, and injuries. They did their best to take advantage of these opportunities. They showed determination and sacrificed the 'now' to achieve their goals later in the season. Congratulations Ipswich golfers on a successful season.
