Ipswich girls first at Miller XC meet

The Ipswich Lady Tigers kept their season team win streak alive with a 33 to 59 varsity team win over runner-up Kimball/White Lake at the Miller Invitational on Monday in Miller.

Their effort was led by Aleah Steger, who finished third in the individual standings at 19:59.11. Tessa Kilber was right behind her in fourth place, clocked at 20:33.47 and Emily DeRaad was 12th in 21:49.84. Next was Ashley Ptacek, who also landed in the Top 15 in fifteenth place with a 22:10.88 effort. And Kari Kanable was next in 22nd with her 22:52.51 effort.

There was a total of 49 individual runners in the girls' event with five teams eligible for the team standings. (Jolie Dugan of James Valley Christian was the top runner of the day with her 19:40.86 outcome, while Jessica Boekelheide of Northwestern Area was second in 19:48.50.)

There were also five boys' teams in contention for their varsity team standings, won by James Valley Christian over Sunshine Bible Academy 24 to 67. Ipswich didn't have the required minimum runners, but was led by Ben Kulesa in eighth place at 18:00.43, followed by Maxwell Geditz in ninth at 18:08.45. The individual champion was Daniel Ayoroa of JVC in 17:34.27 and Northwestern's Jarret Haven was second at 17:42.13. Ipswich coach Todd Thorson explained that for this meet he entered some potential boys' varsity runners Dylan Owens, Taylor Thorson, Evan Onken and Turner Thorson in the junior varsity race to gain more experience for the rest of the schedule.

The IHS teams are indeed preparing to host the Lake Region Conference meet on October 3 at Split Rock Country Club, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
