Lady Tigers third at Battlers Tourney

The Ipswich Lady Tiger volleyball team finished third at the Battler Tournament, an invitational tourney in Gettysburg last Saturday. Ipswich finished 3-1 in the event with its lone loss being to Faulkton, which went on to win the entire tourney over runner-up Faith.

Ipswich indeed lost its opening pool match to the Trojans 25-17 and 25-16. But the Lady Tigers regrouped for a 25-14, 25-13 win over Timber Lake, as well as a pool-play win over McIntosh 25-11, 25-16. That sent Ipswich into the third-place placement match against Herreid-Selby Area, which Ipswich won by identical 26-24 margins.

In that one, Ipswich was 110-119 at the net with 27 kills, led by Abby Grabowska, 51-54 with 14 kills. Lindsey Grabowska was next at 15-21 with four kills. In setting, Ipswich was a perfect 113 with 25 assists paced by Bailey Pitz, 50-50 with 13 assists and Halle Heinz, 42-42,13. The service line was also productive with Ipswich finishing 46-50 there with four aces. Avery Sylte led the effort at 14-14 and Chesney Olivier was next at 10-11 with two aces.

Ipswich had 89 digs, led by Abby Grabowska with 27 and Olivier at 13. Paige Mehlberg added an assisted block and a solo block and Sylte an assist.

Getting Ipswich into its third-place match was that straight sets win over McIntosh. Ipswich went 74-81 at the net with 25 kills, led by Abby Grabowska at 30-32, 14 kills and Lindsey Grabowska, 16-18,4. Ipswich was 78-78 in setting with 22 assists, led by Pitz with a perfect 32-32 effort which included 11 assists. Next was Heinz at 35-35 with nine assists. Ipswich also utilized efficient serving with a 37-39 effort, featuring seven aces. Heinz was 13-13 with three aces and Olivier, 6-6 with two aces.

Ipswich came up with 57 digs, paced by Lindsey Grabowska with 17 and Olivier with 10.

The win over Timber Lake featured an 85-94 effort at the net with 29 kills. led by Abby Grabowska, 30-33 with 11 kills. Sylte was 9-10,6 there. Setting them up were Pitz, 38-38 with 13 assists and Heinz 30-30,6. Ipswich totaled 87 sets without a miss and included 21 assists. In serving, meanwhile, Ipswich finished 44-48 with three aces. Pitz was 11-12, two aces and Sylte, 11-13,1.

Defensively, Ipswich recorded 68 digs, led by Olivier's 19. Lindsey Grabowska added 15. Mehlberg and Halie Feldman each contributed an assisted block.

Against Faulkton, Ipswich had opened with a 99-111 net effort that included 14 kills. Abby Grabowska was 33-35 with seven kills and Lindsey Grabowska 22-26,5. Ipswich was 110-110 in setting duties with 14 assists, led by Heinz, 41-41, five assists and Pitz, 36-36,9. In serving Ipswich was 31-34 with four aces led by Heinz, 6-7, two aces and Pitz, 8-8,1.

Ipswich had 66 digs, led by Lindsey Grabowska with 18 and Pitz with 12.
