The General Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018.

The election polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The polling places in each precinct in the county are:

Precinct #1 – The M Station in Mina (Townships: Clear Lake, Cortlandt, Kent, Pembrook, Richland and Union).

Precinct #2 – 4-H Building in Ipswich (City of Ipswich less residents north of US Hwy 12 and East of 4th Street).

Precinct #3 – 4-H Building in Ipswich (Townships: Adrian, Belle, Cleveland, Fountain, Harmony, Huntley, Ipswich, Liberty, Powell, Rosette, and the northeast section of Ipswich City — north of US Hwy 12 and east of 4th Street).

Precinct #4 – Roscoe Fire Hall (Townships: Bryant, Glen, Glover, Montpelier, North Bryant, Vermont and the City of Roscoe)

Precinct #5 – Bowdle Multi-Purpose Center (Townships: Bowdle, Cloyd Valley, Cottonwood Lake, Hillside, Hudson, Madison, Modena, Odessa and the City of Bowdle)

Precinct #6 – Hosmer Fire Hall (Townships: Hosmer, Sangamon and the City of Hosmer).

The much anticipated election will be important nationally, for the State and even in the local area.

Four candidates are running for a seat in the United States House of Representatives to replace Rep. Kristi Noem. They are George D. Hendrickson-Libertarian, Dustin “Dusty” Johnson-Republican, Tim Bjorkman-Democrat and Ron Wieczorek-Independent.

South Dakota will have a new Governor and Lieutenant Governor after this election. Candidates are: Kurt Evans and Richard Shelatz-Libertarian; Kristi Noem and Larry Rhoden-Republican and Billie Sutton and Michelle Lavallee-Democrat.

See the sample ballot on pages 15 and 16 of this week’s newspaper for the names of all the statewide candidates.

Two men are running for District 23 Senator: Justin R. Cronin-Republican and Joe Yracheta- Democrat.

Vote for two of the candidates on the ballot for District 23 State Representative. They are: Spencer Gosch-Republican, John A. Lake-Republican, Eleanor Iverson- Democrat and Margaret Ann Walsh-Democrat.

Two candidates are vying to be the Edmunds County Commission in District 1: Robert Olson-Republican and Mike Grote-Independent. Only voters in Voting Precinct 1 at Mina can vote in this race.

Three men are running to be the County Commissioner representing District 3. They are: Nathan Davis-Republican, Mark D. Mulder-Democrat and Jerome Schaffner- Independent. Only voters in Voting Precinct 3 can vote in this race.

The Edmunds County Commission candidates were asked to answer questionnaires. Their responses can be found in this week’s newspaper on pages 8 and 9.

Your ballot will also contain several ballot issues. They are:

• Constitutional Amendment W: An initiated amendment to the South Dakota Constitution changing campaign finance and lobbying laws, creating a government accountability board, and changing certain initiative and referendum provisions.

• Constitutional Amendment X: An amendment to the South Dakota Constitution increasing the number of votes needed to approve a constitutional amendment.

• Constitutional Amendment Z: An amendment to the South Dakota Constitution establishing that a proposed constitutional amendment may embrace only one subject, and requiring proposed amendments to be presented and voted on separately.

• Initiated Measure 24: An initiated measure prohibiting contributions to ballot question committees by non-residents, out-of-state political committees, and entities that are not filed with the Secretary of State.

• Initiated Measure 25: An initiated measure increasing the State tobacco tax and creating a postsecondary technical institute fund for the purposes of lowering student tuition and providing financial support to the State postsecondary technical institutes.
