Tigers travel to Webster for non-conference sweep

December 19, 2018

Ipswich made a Saturday trip to Webster quite worthwhile by capturing both ends of a girls/boys non-conference basketball doubleheader.

The Tiger girls got back on the win track with a hard-earned 46-37 victory and the boys picked up their third straight win of the young season with a convincing 61-34 outcome.

In the girls' game, Halle Heinz scored 24 points to lead all scorers and she included a quartet of treys. Next was Abby Grabowska with 10 points. Tessa Kilber was next with five points and she included a lone trey. Sydney Loken also included a trey for her three points. Bailey Pitz and Aleah Steger each scored two points. Ipswich shot 15-60 from the floor with those six treys and finished 10-17 in free throw tries.

The host girls were led by Emily Breske's 12 points. They were 13-41 in floor-shots with seven treys and were 4-7 at the line.

Ipswich totaled 45 rebounds in a balanced effort, led by Abby Grabowska's 11 for a double-double and the hosts claimed 27. And Ipswich protected the basketball quite well with only 11 turnovers; Webster, 22. (Nine of those were Halle Heinz steals.)

In the boys' game, balanced scoring paid dividends. In the official Tiger stats Jacob Nierman with a pair of treys and Will Kadlec each led the Tigers with 16 points apiece. Daniel Braun was next with 12 points, including a trey. Jadon Onken added five points and Reece Moehlinbrink four points. Matt Hettich, Ben Kulesa, Ty Kadlec and Carson Simes all scored two points.

The hosts obtained 12 points from Kaleb Marx and nine points from Matt Block, as a total of seven Bearcats scored. They netted four treys; Ipswich those three. Overall Ipswich shot 20-51 from the floor and 18-26 at the free throw line.

Ipswich topped Webster on the boards 37-29, led by Braun's 13 for a double-double. He also led Ipswich with five of the team's 19 assists.

Ipswich protected the ball quite well with only 10 turnovers.

The Tiger boys and girls had a Tuesday homecourt twinbill against Hitchcock-Tulare with the results not available as of our newspaper deadline. They will do likewise on December 21 hosting Florence/Henry for a g/b DH. But before that, just the IHS girls will host Groton on December 20.
