Peggy Penfield

January 16, 2019

The funeral service for Peggy A. Penfield, 80, of Ipswich, will be held on January 16, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Richland Church. Committal service to follow at 2 p.m. at Northville Cemetery.

Peggy was born January 26, 1938, to Alfred and Ferol (Batteen) O'Neill on a farm near Powell, south of Ipswich. She was raised on the farm and attended country school. She graduated from Ipswich High School in 1955.

After high school she started working with Dr. Bloemendaal at the Ipswich Hospital. Through this experience she began a lifetime of work caring for and helping others.

On September 21, 1957, Peggy was united in marriage to Fay Penfield at the Powell Church. They made their first home in Aberdeen and Peggy would make the daily drive to Ipswich to work in the hospital. They moved to Ipswich in 1962, so she could be closer to her work and they could raise their children in the smaller community. Peggy's family is left with many fond memories of growing up in a neighborhood filled with young families.

After the Ipswich Hospital closed, Peggy went to work as the assistant Register of Deeds at the Edmunds County Courthouse. Fay died in 1994 and Peggy continued to make Ipswich her home.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Always caring for others, she liked to do embroidery work, cook, and garden so that she could share with others. Having been raised on a farm she loved to spend time with her children at Curt's farm. She was fond of playing pinochle with family and friends and was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan. She was also a member of the Ipswich Flower and Garden Club, helping to preserve history with the groups Pioneer Village.

Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church in Ipswich. Nearly every day she could be found in the solitude of the morning reading from her bible.

Peggy passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Winner Long Term Care in Winner.

Thankful for having her in their lives are her daughter, Lisa (Randy) Vesely of Wood; sons, Dave Penfield of Ipswich and Curt (Leta) Penfield of Cresbard; grandchildren, Logan (Kasey) Penfield, Brock Penfield, Garrett (Chelsea) Penfield, Jade (Kevin) Scherr, Ethan Vesely, Jackson Vesely; sisters, Marge Walker of Aberdeen and Karen (Delbert) Gunther of Frederick; brother, Duane (Donna) O'Neill of Jackson, Mo .; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
