Ipswich split a pair of girls’ high school basketball road trips last week.

The Lady Tigers dropped a 60-46 outcome to Lake Region Conference rival Faulkton last Thursday in Faulkton. But they regrouped for a 61-43 win over James Valley Christian on Saturday in Huron. In that one, Ipswich jumped out to a 14-9 first-quarter lead and then led 24-19 at intermission. Ipswich enjoyed a 21-16 third-quarter scoring edge to lead 45-35 with a quarter to play.

Ipswich was led by Kamryn Heinz with 29 points (and that was also the highest individual scoring effort by either team). She included five treys! Abby Grabowska was next with 14 points, including a trey and Halle Heinz scored 13 points with two treys. Sydney Loken’s trey provided three more Lady Tiger points and Aleah Steger capped scoring with a basket.

James Valley Christian countered with four scorers, paced by Karilyn Wieting with 18 points and Brenna Held with 14.

Ipswich shot 24-65 from the floor with the eight treys and finished 5-9 at the free throw line.

Credit JVC with a 46-29 rebounding edge, despite 10 from Abby Grabowska for a double-double. Ipswich had 18 turnovers; JVC, 16. But the Lady Tigers came up with 14 steals, led by four from Kamryn Heinz.

Meanwhile, at Faulkton, Ipswich actually led 11-10 at the first break, but trailed 26-22 at halftime. And that deficit was only 42-36 after three quarters of play. But the hosts racked up a 18-10 final-quarter scoring advantage to seal their verdict.

Taylor Cramer led the hosts with a 18-point evening and she was followed by Morgan Melius with 11 points. Only two other Trojans scored, Taylor Machtemes and Brooke Niederbaumer with seven points each.

Ipswich received a game-high 26 points from Kamryn Heinz, including two treys. Abby Grabowska also reached double-figure scoring honors with 14 points, including a pair of treys. And similar to Faulkton, only two other Lady Tigers scored, Halle Heinz with four points and Steger with a basket.

Ipswich shot 16-47 with that quartet of treys and was a much warmer 10-14 at the line. Ipswich finished with 27 rebounds, led by Kamryn Heinz with eight retrieves and Abby Grabowska with seven, followed by Steger with six. Ipswich committed only seven turnovers and came up with five steals.

The Lady Tigers will next co-host a Friday, Jan. 25 appearance with the Tiger boys against Herreid/Selby Area in Ipswich and just the girls will make a January 29 road trip against Leola/Frederick in Leola.
