Matt Miller (20) battles for a rebound in the Tigers' game in the Edmunds Central School last year. Jared Bjordal (24) keeps an eye on the action.

Ipswich split a pair of boys high school basketball decisions last week. The Tigers made the short road trip over to Roscoe against Edmunds Central last Tuesday and returned with a 63-15 win.

The Tigers obtained control with a 22-1 first-quarter lead and didn't look back. They placed 13 scorers in their scorebook with a balanced effort led by Carson Simes with 10 points, including two of his team's four treys. Will Kadlec was next with nine points, including a trey, followed by Jadon Onken with eight points. Ty Kadlec and Jacob Nierman each scored six points, followed by Jared Bjordal with five points and Reece Moehlenbrink with four counters. Ben Kulesa also scored four points. Matt Miller added three points with a trey and Ethan Gilbert, Max Geditz, Jordan Richardt and Matt Hettich, two points each.

Elliot Beyers led EC with six points, followed by Ian Beyers with three points.

Ipswich utilized 23 accurate floor shots that included four treys. The Tigers were also 13-16 in free throws attempts. The hosts made six two-point baskets and were 3-10 at the line.

Ipswich obtained a 34-21 rebounding advantage, in a balanced effort led by Kulesa and Nierman each with four. (Kulesa also had six assists.) Ipswich only committed two turnovers; EC, 18. Kulesa and Simes co-led Ipswich with four steals apiece. The Tigers totaled 16 of those.

Three nights later Ipswich lost a highly-contested 71-64 outcome to Herreid/Selby Area in the Tiger Den. If you like a close game with a lot of lead changes and ties, this was your night. The visitors were able to make some key free throws down the stretch to pull away slightly more than a couple of possessions.

And early on, it was a game of runs by both teams! The visitors had forged ahead 24-15 after a quarter, but Ipswich was able to grab a narrow 33-31 halftime lead. The Tigers still led 48-43 with a quarter to play. But the Wolverines regained that early momentum to capture their hard-fought win.

Ipswich was led by Geditz and Simes with 14 points apiece. Simes included three treys, including an NBA third-quarter buzzer-beating three-ball and Geditz, a pair of treys. Also credit Nierman with 13 points that featured a trey. Kulesa scored nine points with one trey and Onken six points. Ty Kadlec scored a trey for his three points and Will Kadlec also netted three points. Moehlenbrink completed the ledger with a basket.

The visitors, meanwhile, obtained a game-high 25 points from Wade Begeman and Clayton Randall was next with 23 points. Dawson Zabel also reached double-figures in their scorebook with 12 points.

Each team included eight treys. Ipswich had a 37-29 rebounding edge, led by Onken and Kulesa with seven each. The Tigers committed 17 turnovers; their visitors 15.

Ipswich, now 8-6, hosts Miller on the 31st in a girls/boys twinbill.
