Girls Region 2B tournament next week

February 13, 2019

Yes, it's that time of the year, nearly time for high school girls' basketball regionals to get underway across South Dakota including Region 2B.

As in volleyball, two winners will advance from each 10-team region, each winning a 2B bracket championship. Those lucky 16 survivors, the SoDak 16 will then be seeded statewide into eight games on February 28 and those winners will advance to the State B tourney set for Huron on March 7,8 and 9.

The 2B tourney begins on Monday with a pair of play-in games, number-eight vs. nine in the top bracket with that winner advancing on Tuesday against the number-one seed and that bracket will also pit the fourth seed at home against the #five seed on Tuesday. Those winners will advance to a Thursday bracket championship match at the home of the higher seed. Meanwhile, the Monday play-in in the bottom bracket will feature the number-seven vs. 10 confrontation with that winner advancing against the number-two overall seed at the home of the higher seed on Tuesday. That bracket's other Tuesday semifinal will see number-three hosting six with the winner also advancing to a Thursday championship clash at the home of the highest seed.

As of our newspaper deadline, Ipswich, 14-3, was holding on to the top overall seed in the region and Edmunds Central, 6-8 entering this week was in sixth overall. But the ultimate pairings depend on some remaining regular-season games involving 2B members this week. So check with the schools or other media for the latest 2B pairings.

All games begin at 7 p.m.
