Ipswich won three recent girls' high school basketball outings last week, capped by a 58-52 overtime victory over Waverly-South Shore during the Warner Classic last Saturday in Warner. The Lady Tigers had topped Sully Buttes in Onida by a 46-29 verdict a night earlier and had outlasted Waubay/Summit 49-41 in Ipswich last Tuesday.

Now back to that stunning OT victory on Saturday! The W-SS Coyotes had netted an and-one layup plus foul shot for a 48-45 lead late in the contest.

But Ipswich closed to within two points on a Kamryn Heinz free throw. Both teams then missed some scoring opportunities, while the game clock was ticking away. But Ipswich got a second-chance loose ball opportunity at the buzzer, courtesy of Halle Heinz who knotted the game at 48-48 headed into OT. And the Lady Tigers were indeed grateful for that new life, even though the Coyotes did manage a free throw for what would be a very temporary overtime lead!

That's because Ipswich responded with a 10-3 scoring advantage the rest of the OT, with all the IHS points courtesy of a 10-14 free throw effort.(The Lady Tigers made 18 free throws for the entire game and shot 17-54 from the floor, including six treys.)

Kamryn Heinz finished with 25 points for Ipswich, including three treys and her sister Halle was next with 16 points, including a trey. Abby Grabowska finished with nine points, including a trey and Sydney Loken added six points including her team's remaining three-ball. Aleah Steger rounded out scoring with two points.

The Coyotes' post player Emily Kranz also managed 25 points and Ally Kranz also landed in double-figure scoring territory with 12 points.

Ipswich had led 15-12 after a quarter and grabbed a 26-23 halftime edge, courtesy of a Kamryn Heinz trey. Ipswich then led 43-37 with a quarter to play before W-SS obtained a little momentum of its own, but fortunately not quite enough to nail down a win.

Some key rebounds against a taller team were yet another reason for the narrow victory. The Lady Tigers totaled 44 rebounds, led by Halle Heinz with 12 for a double-double, Kamryn Heinz with 11 also for a double-double and Abby Grabowska was next with 10, not quite a double-double!

Only four Lady Tigers scored in their win over the Chargers, but their own defense proved to be quite capable against a traditionally defensive-minded program.

Abby Grabowska led Ipswich with a game-high 17 points, including three treys. Halle Heinz finished with 14 points and she featured a pair of treys. Kamryn Heinz was right behind with 13 points, including a trey. Steger capped scoring with two points.

The hosts were led by Lauren Wittler with 11 points.

Ipswich shot 14-38 from the floor, including those six treys and 12 free throws.

Ipswich utilized 36 total rebounds, led by Kamryn Heinz with 13 for a double-double.

At home, meanwhile, the Lady Tigers outlasted their Waubay/ Summit visitors, for that eight-point win. The visiting Mustangs had obtained a 11-10 lead after a quarter, but Ipswich utilized a second-quarter 14-7 scoring advantage for a 24-18 halftime edge. Ipswich then led 41-30 at the third-quarter break, after Halle Heinz was fouled attempting a trey from halfcourt at the buzzer. She made two of her three free throw tries!

Halle and Kamryn Heinz shared scoring honors with 16 points apiece. (Halle Heinz featured four treys and Kamryn, three.) Abby Grabowska tallied nine points. Sydney Loken added a trey and Chesney Olivier also scored three points. Tessa Kilber completed scoring with two points.

The visitors were led by Alyssa Barth with 12 points in a balanced scoring effort.

Ipswich obtained a 29-27 rebounded edge, powered by Kamryn Heinz with 12 retrieves for a double-double. Ipswich committed only nine turnovers, exactly half of W/S's total. Those were partly forced by 10 IHS steals, led by six from Halle Heinz.

Ipswich, 14-3 entering this week, was scheduled for two more regular-season girls' games, hosting Highmore-Harrold (girls-only) on Tuesday, Feb. 12 and then a girls/boys trip to Gettysburg to face the Battlers on February 14.
