IHS Golfers host a meet when road trip postponed

The Ipswich varsity golfers were planning to attend a meet hosted by James Valley Christian in Huron last Thursday, but it got postponed until this Thursday, May 16. So the Ipswich contingent stayed home to attend a meet at Split Rock in Ipswich that day instead.

And it turned out to be a good day for the IHS boys, sweeping the first three spots for a 256-stroke team score, bettering the runners-up from Selby Area's 297. But the Walworth County based team did manage a 311 to 378 win over second-place Ipswich in the girls' division.

Those Tiger boys were led by Luke Peterson's first-place 81, followed by Ethan Gilbert's runner-up 86 and Matthew Jaenisch with a third-place 89 among 19 individual golfers. Chet Peterson was next in sixth at 98. Kaden Boettcher fired a 109 for 11th, followed by Zach Geditz in 12th at 126 and Jacob Bakken 15th at 138.

Ipswich's top girls' finish came from Halie Feldman in third among nine golfers with a 113. Selby Area's Meadow Zabel won the event with her 104, edging her own teammate Jayda Sawinsky by one stroke. Ipswich's Angeline Rye carded a 129 for fifth and Chloe Swenson added a seventh-place 136. Tarynn Kleffman added a 137 for eighth, followed by Kamryn Boettcher also at 137.

So Ipswich will still have made the trip to Huron three times before the June 3-4 State B in Mitchell, according to IHS coach Matthew Pollock. The pre-region was scheduled for Monday, May 13 at Huron, followed by that postponed JVC invite on May 16 and the actual regional meet on May 20 in the Fair City.
