Ipswich golfers wrap up 2019 regular season

 


The State B high school golf tourney has been moved from Mitchell to Yankton due to poor course conditions. The meet will be held on June 3-4.

Ipswich prepped for the Monday Regional meet at Huron with a pair of trips there last week.

The Tigers attended the pre-region warm up last Monday and also the invitational on May 16 hosted by JVC.

In the pre-region there on Monday, May 13, the Tiger boys were third as a team with a 289. Potter County won at 276 followed by Faulkton’s 284.

Ipswich was led by Luke Peterson’s third at 88, followed by Ethan Gilbert’s fifth at 93. Shad Sharp of PC topped his own teammate Grant Luikens 86 to 87.

Ipswich’s third scorer was Chet Peterson with a 108 for 23rd among 34 golfers. Mathew Jaenisch added a 31st place, 114 and Kaden Boettcher was 33rd at 117.

In the girls’ race Halie Feldman was 16th at 127, followed by Chloe Swenson 20th at 136. Kamryn Boettcher was 23rd at 147, followed by 24th place Angeline Rye at 150 and Tarynn Kleffman at 151.

There were 33 girl golfers, led by Lauren Witler of Sully Buttes with her 97 and Autumn Vetter of Selby Area was next at 99.

Ipswich was sixth in the girls’ team race at 404. Selby Area edged Sully Buttes 314 to 324 there.

In the JVC meet Thursday, Ipswich was fourth in the 8-team boys’ race. The host JVC team won it 255 to 269 over Howard. The host’s Austin Boomsma won 82 to 84 over the Tigers’ own Gilbert.

Luke Peterson was fifth among over 40 golfers and his score was 88. Jaenisch placed 23rd at 103 and Chet Peterson 27th at 110. Boettcher was 36th at 120.

For the Lady Tigers, who finished sixth with a 386, Halie Feldman was ninth at 114. Ayla McDonald of Chester won it 100 to 101 over DeSmet’s Savanna Vincent. Deubrook won the team race 319 to 324 over DeSmet.

Ipswich’s second girl golfer was Boettcher 25th at 135, Kleffman was 26th at 137 and Angeline Rye 28th at 144, followed by Chloe Swenson’s 30th at 188.
