Ipswich Cross Country meet features yet another Lady Tiger individual win

September 18, 2019

Tessa Kilber took the lead early and kept it.

Ipswich hosted a high school cross country meet last Saturday, but not at its usual location due to some standing water issues on the Split Rock golf course. Instead the course was relocated around and inside the Tiger Sports Complex, including the track area itself.

But one thing didn't change this year compared to last year. The IHS Lady Tigers obtained a number-one girls' varsity finish this year produced by an IHS senior Tessa Kilber in 18:15. (There were 32 girls' varsity contestants.) Ipswich also entered one other girl in the varsity event, Emily DeRaad who compiled a fourth-place 18:55 outcome. (The second place finisher was Mobridge-Pollock's Heidi Olson in 18:53.) Aberdeen Roncalli captured the girls team title 11 to 12 over Milbank.

Maxwell Geditz moves up on a Faulkton runner Saturday in Ipswich. He eventually placed third.

Meanwhile the boys' varsity contained 59 runners, led by Nick Batchelor of Milbank in 14:54 over runner-up runner Dylan Mollman of McIntosh who was second in 15:18. But Ipswich's own Maxwell Geditz was third in 15:42. Ipswich entered one other boy in this one -Evan Onken, 37th in 18:11. (Milbank topped Timber Lake 19 to 29 for the team title.)

Ipswich also entered some girls and boys into their JV races for more experience and they didn't do too badly at that. Ashley Ptacek won the girls' JV run in 20:40. Kaylin Onken was sixth in 21:39 and Chloe Jager eighth in 22:08. Taylor Thorson got a 17:41 boys' JV winning-effort, followed by Turner Thorson in 17:46 and Dylan Wald in third at 18:24.

Meanwhile Ashlinn Hartwell was second in the JH (middle school) run in 13:10, Madyson Gellhaus was 10th in 14:13 and Gabrielle Wald 12th in 14:32. Gracyn Kadlec was 20th in 15:12, followed by Ava Davis 25th in 15:35 and Natalie Crissman 31st in 18:49.

Xavier Kadlec was fourth in the boys' middle-school event in 12:45.

Ipswich will compete in the Potter County Invitational in Gettysburg on Sept. 21.
