Ipswich netters win Mobridge-Pollock invite

Ipswich never lost a single set in winning a Mobridge-Pollock Invitational volleyball tournament last Saturday in Mobridge. The three wins improved Ipswich's record to 8-1 at that point in time and capped a very busy net week for the IHS Lady Tigers.

Ipswich indeed defeated McLaughlin 25-20, and 25-16, Cheyenne Eagle Butte 25-19, 25-17 and then topped the host school 25-22, 25-18 in the championship match.

In that one, Ipswich utilized a 49 of 54 serving evening with five aces, led by Halle Heinz, 11-13 with three aces and Chesney Olivier, 12-12,1. Ipswich was 46 of 55 at the net with 20 kills, paced by Heinz, 9-9 with six kills and Hailey Bierman, 10-13, 6. And that was set up by 48 sets in 54 tries featuring 15 assists. Heinz was a leader in this department, as well, going 23-27 with seven assists and Bailey Pitz finished 21-22 also with seven assists.

Defensively, Ipswich collected 39 digs, led by Olivier with 11 and Avery Sylte with nine. Halie Feldman and Sylte each had a solo block and an assisted block. Ipswich had three assisted altogether.

Starting the day, the Lady Tigers were 44-50 in serving against McLaughlin and it included 12 aces. Heinz was 11-13 with five aces and Lindsey Grabowska 14-14 with four aces. At the net Ipswich finished 33-47 with 21 kills. Hailey Bierman was 8-11 with eight kills and Sylte, 7-8,1. The setting chores were handled by Heinz, 25 of 26 with 10 assists and Pitz, 15-16,6. Altogether Ipswich dished out 43 total sets in 45 tries and featured 17 assists.

Ipswich came away with 41 digs as a team and was led by Olivier with 13 and Grabowska with 12.

Paige Mehlberg had one solo block and two assists and Sylte one assist.

In their semifinal clash with Cheyenne Eagle Butte, the Lady Tigers finished 47-53 at the service line with 10 aces. Sylte was 12-13 with three aces and Heinz 12-14, with three aces. Ipswich was 47-51 in setting with 21 assists, paced by Heinz, 22 of 26 with 12 assists and Pitz, 23-23,9. That helped establish Ipswich's net attack which finished 42-54 with 25 kills. Sylte was 8-9 with seven kills, Feldman, 6-7 with four kills and Mehlberg, 8-10 with four kills, as well.

The Lady Tigers came up with 38 digs, led by Olivier with 13 and Pitz with six. Sylte had a solo block and an assist, while Hailey Bierman added a solo.

Ipswich was scheduled to travel to Warner in LRC action on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers will return home to host another league foe, Northwestern Area on September 19 and will host its own invitational tourney on September 21. Ipswich will then go back on the road to face Potter County in Hoven in non-league play on the 24th.
