2020 Ipswich Snow Queens crowned

The winners in the Ipswich Snow Queen Festival were, left photo - left to right, Jayna Sanborn, Alexa Rossman, 2020 Miss Ipswich Avery Sylte, 2020 Junior Miss Ipswich Ashley Ptacek, Jailey Hutson and Quincy Olivier.

South Dakota Snow Queen Aleah Steger, who was crowned 2019 Miss Ipswich last year, crowned her successor on Saturday night, Nov. 9 in the School Theatre.

The 2020 Ipswich Snow Queen is Avery Sylte. The first runner-up was Alexa Rossman. The senior contestants chose Jayna Sanborn as Miss Congeniality.

2019 Junior Miss Ipswich Emily DeRaad crowned the 2020 Junior Miss Ipswich - Ashley Ptacek. Jailey Hutson was the first runner-up and Quincy Olivier was the second runner-up. Quincy was also chosen the Junior Miss Congeniality.

The 2019 Snow Queens, Aleah Steger and Emily DeRaad interviewed the Princess and Prince contestants. They asked each Princess and Prince candidates a few questions. Then the Ipswich first graders sang a Christmas song. The winners, chosen at random, were Princess Adelyn Pollock and Prince Jaxson Horst.

The 2020 Senior Citizens Snow Queen Wilma Williams was introduced. She was chosen by the residents and staff at Avantara Ipswich.


Trent Osborne was the emcee for the evening.

After several weeks of clues, the new queen helped unmask this year's Frosty - Lonnie Steen. Vi Gillick was the first to guess Frosty's identity.

Musical entertainment was provided by entrants in this year's junior and senior Talent Contest. Two senior and six junior contesants performed for judges earlier on Saturday. Two finalists in each division were set to perform Saturday evening. The winners will take part in the South Dakota Snow Queen Festival in January 2020. Jayna Sanborn won the senior division. Tessa Kilber, second place winner, was unable to perform Saturday evening to health issues. Kylee Sanborn was the winner of the junior division. Gracyn Kadlec was second place. Jayna and Kylee each sang solos.

Miss Ipswich Avery and Junior Miss Ipswich Ashley will compete in the 74th South Dakota Snow Queen Festival, to be held in January 2020.

This year's Ipswich Snow Queen Festival was sponsored by the Ipswich Commercial Club.
