Fiddlin' Around

December 4, 2019

I usually mention the weather in this column and what can I say, the climate has made the headlines again! In whatever form the latest round of precipitation arrived during the past weekend's winter storm throughout South Dakota, it has undoubtedly added to a calendar year (2019) total moisture record and as you know (in our area of the state at least) a good chunk of that has been in snow.

But we along with the rest of a sell-out crowd took a chance on the roads and the city streets in Aberdeen to attend the Medora Christmas concert in the Johnson Fine Arts Center late Sunday afternoon and we are glad that we did (Tena is on the Aberdeen Concert Association board of directors, who sponsored the event.)

Those same Medora entertainers had put on a memorable concert at the Ipswich School Theater a year ago and they themselves braved this year's weather, after performing a concert in the Bismarck area a night earlier. And Sunday's show did go off without a hitch lasting nearly two full hours without an intermission. You can't beat that for musical entertainment. (After leaving Aberdeen they were scheduled to host their show in Spearfish on Monday, quite a long drive even in decent weather.)

I don't know exactly how much snow we ended up with in Ipswich, but the Roscoe area had around 15 inches of the white stuff and Aberdeen 16+, so I guess you could average that out and be in the ball park!
