Fiddlin' Around

January 8, 2020

It traditionally doesn't snow all that much in January, just like it sometimes doesn't rain all that much in July. That is considered to be what's normal, if you can call anything about the weather normal nowadays.

So far this month (and year), what we've had for moisture has been somewhat of a wintry mix and not all that much yet. But it certainly doesn't take much of that to make the roads a mess. Especially because it has been fairly mild in the late afternoon the past few days and sometimes with quite strong wind gusts. And if there wasn't all that much snow still lying around in huge drifts all over the place, our afternoon temperatures might even be a few degrees warmer. But it sure can get rather chilly at night, especially if it's clear.

Our area sports fans have sometimes been contending with less than optimal driving conditions to catch their favorite teams in action. Hopefully that won't be the case on Saturday when the Ipswich girls face Dell Rapids St. Mary in a classic at DSU in Madison. (And the varsity wrestling matches for Ipswich/Leola/Bowdle have all been on the road.)

And starting with this edition, the newspapers should be getting back on schedule with Tuesday printing at Ortonville, Minn. and Wednesday mailings. And check out the online version of the Tribune as well! www.ipswichtribune.com
