IHS high jump star to compete for NSU

April 29, 2020

Northern State University track and field coach Lynne Dingman has announced that Ipswich High School senior Maxwell Geditz has decided to attend NSU for track and field next year, as one of seven recently announced NSU prospects, including both some men and women.

"l am so proud of Max. He is a great athlete and even a better human being. I think he can do just about anything," says his IHS coach Todd Thorson. "NSU is a great place for Max. They have a top-notch education program and he is undecided on a major, so this is a really good place for Max to get a good start. The Barnett Center and all their sports facilities will be a perfect place for him to train and their coaching staff is excellent as well.”

Coach Dingman agrees: "Max has had a very storied career for the Ipswich Tigers. He has great range on the track and is a versatile athlete who is going to try the decathlon in college."

He will be following in the footsteps of Edmunds Central multi-event track and field star Bryce Malsam at NSU.

Not being able to compete in his prep senior year because of the SDHSAA cancelling the entire season due to the corona virus pandemic, Geditz has already accomplished some track and field achievements that many seniors would envy. He is the defending State B high jump champion at 6-2 and a six-year letter winner for the Tigers under Thorson's guidance. (Geditz has a personal best of 6-6 in his high jump specialty.) He has also stood on the state placement podium for several running events, highlighted by a 4x800 State B relay team title. He was also a member of the Tigers' 2017 State B championship cross country team.

He is the son of Greg and Brenda Geditz.
