Fiddlin' Around

The long holiday weekend proved to be a stormy one and the individual storms seemed to run together on into Sunday night. (And those July 5 storms were apparently even more intense both to the south and north of us in Faulk County and McPherson County.) But Monday's, July 6 weather wasn't as inclement as the advance forecasts had predicted and Tuesday morning also dawned mostly sunny with a light northwest wind for a change.

Meanwhile, some residences in Ipswich (including us) were without power Saturday night for over two hours during the July 4 evening storm. Weather observer Marv Seyer said that we had wind gusts in the 70 to 80 mph range that evening and this obviously did some tree trimming, as well as siding or roof damage in a few places around town.

But just as Monday indeed turned out to be quite a tranquil day despite the heat and humidity, July 3 had also been very peaceful except for fireworks so there was an impressive turnout for the Mina Lake Freedom Fest. South Dakotan Vice Admiral Lyle Bien’s speech was perhaps a highlight of this evening, along with several vintage planes flying over and parachuters. What are you guys going to come up with next year to top the 2020 Freedom Fest? Can the 2021 Fest be even more awesome?
