September 23, 2020

Ipswich sustained a 3-1 Lake Region Conference girls' high school volleyball defeat by Warner last Tuesday in the Tiger Den. Ipswich had lost its first set 25-16 and the Tigers' final scoring in that set would be a Hailey Bierman kill that left them down 23-16.

But the Tiger girls bounced back for their lone set win, a 25-20 verdict, capped by a Warner hitting error. And the Tigers' 24th point for that 24-20 lead was delivered by a Paige Mehlberg kill.

But Warner then claimed back-to-back 25-11 and 25-19 leads of its own to win set #3 and the fourth set, respectively. The visitors would knock down a total of 54 kills in their net attack, while Ipswich finished 92-116 in overall hits with 34 kills. Ipswich was led by Lindsey Grabowska, 22-24 with seven kills, Mehlberg, 12-18 with six kills and Hailey Bierman, 21-28 with five kills. Ipswich enjoyed a 61-65 serving night with two aces, but the visitors were 84-93 at the line with a total of seven aces. Grabowska also led the IHS serving effort, going 14-14 with an ace and Tarynn Kleffman added a 14-16 night at the line, including her team's other ace.

Ipswich's setting chores were predominantly shared by Bailey Pitz, 44-44 with 11 assists and Halle Heinz, 54-57 with 10 assists. Altogether the Tigers distributed 111 sets in 115 tries with 28 assists.

The Tigers diggers had a busy evening with 81 total digs, compared to Warner's 83. Chesney Olivier paced the Tigers with 32 digs and climbed the 2000 career digs plateau that evening. Grabowska added 16 digs. Ipswich also came up with one solo block and six assisted blocks, led by Hailey Bierman with four assists and Mehlberg with three assists.

The LRC loss was Ipswich's initial loss of the current campaign.
