December 9, 2020

Local schools have been dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. It is time for basketball and wrestling teams to begin action.

The Ipswich School policy to deal with COVID is limiting the size of the crowd. Each player will be given five coupons for fans. The opposing team will get the same number of coupons. The home games will be livestreamed on valleytel.net. If you have Valley cable TV you can see the games on channels 290 or 292.

Saturday, Dec. 12 Ipswich will have a double header. Dan Knust, Ipswich AD, said they will clear the gym after the boys’ games. The boys willplay Waubay/Summit. The boys’ JV games begin at 12 noon. The event begins after an intra-squad “C” team scrimmage. After the boys are done, the girls will play Hitchcock-Tulare.

At this time, the North Central Thunder Sports Cooperative is not currently limiting attendance or requiring masks at any athletic events, said Hector Serna, Bowdle High School AD. “However, all member schools within the North Central Thunder Sports Cooperative do require that all patrons get checked with a temperature scanner at the entry to an athletic event and if they have any COVID19 related symptoms to stay home,” Serna said. They recommend that all patrons make the effort to socially distance the best way that they can to feel comfortable.

The 2020/2021 wrestling season opened with new Covid 19 guidelines, according to Sandra Frickson, Ipswich/Bowdle wrestling fan and Bowdle School Board member. Tournaments are now limited to 112 male participants and 24 female. Wrestlers are limited to four matches per day and two weigh-in events in a week. In addition, spectators may be limited at each event to ensure social distancing for athletes and fans. The Ipswich/Bowdle wrestlers will attend a tournament in Faulkton on Saturday.
