PC Battlers stop Tigers

February 24, 2021

The Tiger boys tangled with Potter County last Thursday in Gettysburg. But the hosts lived up to their nickname, battling to a 61-37 victory.

The first quarter had decided nothing, as each team would be able to procure 14 points. Taylor Thorson had given Ipswich a 14-11 lead on a basket, but the hosts would answer with a buzzer-beating trey. Back to back Ty Kadlec treys midway through the second quarter gave Ipswich what would prove to be its final lead at 21-20. Trailing by seven points later in the half, Ipswich obtained a Josh McQuarie basket to trim its deficit to five points, 30-25. But once again the Battlers had the final say in the second quarter for a 32-25 advantage going into halftime.

The Battlers would then lead 51-30 with a quarter to play and were able to coast to their win. They were led by Cooper Logan with 15 points, followed by Kayden Ahlemeier with 14 points and Seth Sharp and Grant Luikens with 11 points each. Two other Battlers got into their scorebook.

Ipswich was paced by McQuarie's 14 points, including a trey. Kadlec finished with nine points with a trio of treys. Thorson would end up with four points and Eric Severson tallied three points. Dylan Owens, Tyler Hettich and Carson Gohl each contributed a basket and  Matt Hettich a free throw.

Ipswich made 11 baskets from inside the trey arc, plus those four treys.

The Tigers were 3-7 in free throw tries. The Battlers utilized 22 accurate baskets including three treys and went 14-28 in free throws.

Ipswich faced a 48-32 rebounding deficit, despite eight by McQuarie. Severson, Kadlec and Gohl added four each.

The Tigers sustained 15 turnovers; PC, 15, as well. The Tigers claimed eight steals, led by McQuarie's three. He also had three assists, as did Matt Hettich. Their team totaled 13 of those.

The Tigers' regular-season record right after that defeat was 12-6.
