Once again there was a high school track and field attended by more than one Tiger team. It was indeed the Groton Invitational hosted by the Groton Tigers last Tuesday in Groton. And again the IHS Tigers made an impression both in the field and on the track.

For instance? Katelyn Geditz swept the girls' throwing competition with a 31-10 shot put toss and 102-3 discus spin. Ipswich won the 800-meter girls' relay, comprised of Halle Heinz, Paige Mehlberg, Emily DeRaad and Vanesa Diaz in 1:59.48. Ipswich also claimed the girls' 1,600-meter relay in 4:28.72. (Those runners were Ashley Ptacek, Emily DeRaad, Paige Mehlberg and Vanesa Diaz.)

Ipswich added a second in the 400-meter girls' relay event clocked at :54.98 and ran by Vanesa Diaz, Ashley Ptacek, Halle Heinz and Paige Mehlberg.

The girls added a second-place high jump effort by Paige Mehlberg at 4-7 and were also second in the pole vault thanks to Quincy Olivier's 8-0 height.

Eric Severson won the boys' discus measured at 147-1 and Carson Gohl the long jump at 19-9.75. The Tigers added a pair of boys' relay wins — the 400 entered by Tyler Hettich, Colby Sylte, Matthew Hettich and Ty Kadlec in :45.7 and the 1,600-meter baton event ran by Gohl, Kadlec, Maxwell Kulesa and Matthew Hettich in 3:48.98.

Meanwhile Josh McQuarie finished second in both hurdle events, the high hurdles in :16.03 and the low hurdles in :45.33.
