IHS thinclads runners-up at Eureka Lions meet

 


The weather permitted a May 4 track and field meet to be held in Eureka, sponsored by the Eureka Lions. Ipswich got second in both the girls' and boys' team outcomes.

On the women's side only the Aberdeen Central girls were able to out-score Ipswich 195.5 to 105. Eleven girls' teams managed to score at this event.

That was also true in the boys' competition where Ipswich was narrowly edged 143 to 135 by the eventual team champions, the Mobridge-Pollock Tigers.

Ashlinn Hartwell placed first for the IHS Tigers in the 3,200-meter run in 13:38.7 and her teammate Graycn Kadlec was second there in 13:51.9. Seconds were also obtained by several additional Ipswich girls, for example Emily DeRaad in the 800-meter run clocked at 2:32.7. And Paige Mehlberg added a second in the high jump measured at 4-09.00. The girls' 4x100-meter relay team was also second in :54.46, ran by Vanesa Diaz, Ashley Ptacek, Halle Heinz and Paige Mehlberg.


The boys, meanwhile, featured a 148-11 discus win from Eric Severson and a 4x100-meter relay win from Dylan Owens, Carson Gohl, Matthew Hettich and Ty Kadlec in :44.5. (Kadlec placed second in the 100-meter dash, clocked at :11.5.) Ipswich added a runner-up 4x400-meter relay outcome in 3:42.1 (Maxwell Kulesa, Turner Thorson, Taylor Thorson, Dylan Wald). And Zach Geditz finished second in shot put action at 41-02.25, as did Carson Gohl in the long jump at 19-06.00.
