Learning about safety at the 4H camp

Local youth participated in the 4-H Safety Camp last week.

Safety Camp was held on Wednesday, June 2 at the 4-H Building in Ipswich. Seventy youth from Edmunds and McPherson Counties had a fun and educational day.

Classes were held on electrical safety, gun safety, first aid, PTO safety, lawnmower safety, driving safety, fire safety, atv safety, grain bin and farm safety.

Presenters were from FEM, SD Game Fish and Parks, Ipswich Ambulance, C&B- Roscoe, Edmunds County Sheriff, SD Highway Patrol, SD Farmer's Union, Agtegra, and Jackie Kessler. Mike and Shirley Williams spoke to the group about Mike's farm accident.

Safety camp was sponsored by many local businesses along with grants from the SD 4-H Leaders' Association and Select Seed/ Corteva Agriscience.

Bonnie Nehlich Edmunds County 4-H Youth Program Advisor, Jackie Rau McPherson County 4-H Youth Program Advisor, and Jackie Kessler 4-H volunteer organized the camp. Helpers included Charli Rawden, Austin Rawden, Jailey Hutson, Quincey Olivier, Kathryn Kilber, Baylee Kulesa, Xavier Kadlec, Robin Butler, and Hannah Beyers.
