Ipswich hosts Cross Country action

Dylan Wald in Cross Country action Saturday in Ipswich.

Ipswich hosted a high school cross country meet at Split Rock last Saturday.

The IHS Tiger boys were able to place second as a team that day, second only to Miller's seven team points. Ipswich was indeed next with 33! The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers were third with their 37, Highmore-Harrold fourth with 37, followed by Faulkton with 44 and Aberdeen Roncalli with 44.

Meanwhile the IHS varsity girls were able to land in third place with their 21 points. This event was won by Potter County with eight team points, followed by Aberdeen Roncalli in second at 20. Stanley County was fourth with 43.

The boys' varsity outcome was individually won by Miller's Pierce Baumberger with a 17:00.40 clocking, topping his own teammate Alex Schumacher who was a 17:06.76 finisher. Dylan Wald led Ipswich with his tenth-place 18:39.61 effort. Taylor Thorson was 12th in 18:50.93 and their third scorer would become Turner Thorson in 22nd at 19:27.52.


The girls' varsity event was captured by Danika Kaup of Potter County in 19:54.47, followed by Autumn Fallis of H-H in 20:09.89. Ipswich's top varsity girl that day would be Ashlinn Hartwell in sixth at 20:58.33. Gracyn Kadlec was next in eighth at 21:06.37. Madisyn Gellhaus became the third IHS scorer with a 10th-place outcome in 21:26.58. So all three of those IHS girls dented the varsity Top Ten that morning.

And Ipswich's Gabrielle Wald placed fourth in the girls' JV meet with a 18:03.00 finish. (Warner's Brooke Haaland won that event over teammate Addisyn Heinrich. ). Katelyn Tufte was sixth for Ipswich in 18:36.00 and Ava Davis also dented the Top 10 in tenth at 19:27.00.

IHS runners Ashlinn Hartwell, Madisyn Gellhaus and Gracyn Kadlec in action in Ipswich Saturday.

Even more impressive was that Ipswich's Xavier Kadlec would win the boys' JV run in 15:17.91, which featured a total of 24 runners.

And the Ipswich middle-school girls' event was captured by Ipswich's own Aubree DeRaad in 12:14.51. And Bella Unser was 13th among the 27 runners in 14:52.80.

The boys' M.S. event was won by a Faulkton runner Korbin Stark in 11:33.95. Ipswich's Jace Stiles finished third in 12:01.69 and Clayton Horst was sixth in 12:17.01. Tyler Gellhaus added a 18th-place clocking of 13:14.90.

Ipswich will attend a Potter County invite on September 18 in Gettysburg followed by a Faulkton event on September 22.
