Tigers stop Northwestern, 48-0

September 15, 2021

Ipswich manfactured a 48-0 varsity football win over Northwestern last Friday in Mellette.

It was a LRC league showdown. The Tigers will have another league clash this Friday in Ipswich. The Tigers will meet Warner in the Gala Day game at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile Ipswich kept its record unblemished with the win at Northwestern.

The Tigers’ first lead would be 6-0 when Ian Beyers passed to Ty Kadlec for a 15-yard TD aerial strike. Luke Peterson’s conversion run would put Ipswich up 8-0.

Ipswich later forced a fumble near midfield and that possession would be capped by a Luke Peterson TD run of three yards. But the PAT play failed leaving Ipswich up 14-0.

The hosts weren’t able to sustain a drive so ultimately were forced to punt and Tyler Hettich returned it 85 yards to pay dirt so the Tigers would go ahead 20-0.

The Tigers would recover another fumble. That drive would result in a Carson Gohl 14-yard TD run that made it 26-0 Tigers after a quarter.

The Tigers’ D would then force a punt and another Tiger drive would result in a 59-yard TD scamper by Gohl for a 32-0 Tiger edge. Ipswich would later force yet another Wildcat punt and Ipswich was able to cap that drive with a Hettich TD run of 50 yards and a 38-0 IHS lead. He also tacked on a successful conversion carry.

And Hettich wasn’t through yet, adding a 95-yard kick return TD. Ian Beyers passed to Trevor Beyers for a PAT conversion. That made a 48-0 Tiger lead.

Ipswich rushed for 292 yards on 33 carries and Gohl was 10 for 128 yards with two TDs. Hettich had two rushes for 58 yards and one TD.

Ian Beyers finished 5 of 7 through the air for 86 yards and that one aerial TD.

Kadlec was the leading receiver with three grabs for 75 yards. Gohl added one catch for eight yards. Trevor Beyers had the other for three yards.

Ipswich’s leading tackler would be Luke Peterson with 13, Hettich had 11 and Zach Geditz had eight tackles. Gohl had two sacks.
