The Ipswich fourth grade students were asked to “Tell about some of your family’s Christmas traditions and what you like about them and why they are important to you.”

This is a tradition that my cousin and my mom, dad, my sister, and I have. We play games. We do the Abcd, and on this year we need to get things that start with a E. So we have to buy presents that start with a E.

This is another tradition that my mom, dad, sister, grandma, and grandpa do. We go to my house, have a good meal like chili, and then open presents and have fun.

Haley

The tradition I like is baking home-made cookies. We make some each year. I like them because they have a chocolate kiss in the middle that makes them taste better. They are important because it’s a Christmas gift to me.

Lane

A family Christmas tradition that I like and is special is going to my grandma’s house. We always eat a lot of food. My favorite is the potatoes. It’s important to me because it’s delicious.

After I eat, another christmas tradition is open up presents. I always go last. Then we hang out a bit and then play some card games and go home.

I get together with my family. I eat with my cousins, aunts, and uncles.

One special thing my family and I do is we always get a real tree. Why I like real trees is you can go up to them and smell them and they smell like pine. Another thing I like about a real tree is you get to stand on a chair to get the high parts. We also get to water it. It is always fun watching dad try to put on the star.

An important Christmas tradition that my family has is an ugly sweater contest. We all wear ugly sweaters and we have supper and then we vote on which sweater is the funniest. Last year it was my uncle. I voted for my dad last year. His shirt was pretty funny, but my uncle’s was funnier. That is my favorite Christmas tradition.

One of the family traditions I like is going to both of my grandmas and grandpas houses and having dinner at both houses. What I like about them is having dinner with all my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and family. There important to me because being with my familiy is really fun. We also watch out the window in our car and look at all the lights and inflatables. I like seeing who has the most lights.

One of our other tradition is to do a thing where you have a person to give a gift. We always have coffee cake every Christmas morning. And I like coffee caked lot. So those are all my family traditions.

My favorite thing we do at Christmas is we open presents in the living room on fluffy blankets. We each get a blanket. My mom gives us our presents. We are not allowed to open them until my mom says go.

Do you have something you do every year? I do. Every year the week before Christmas we get a bunch of food because my brother and I eat a lot. When it is the week of Christmas most stores are closed so you can’t get anything from stores. When the stores are closed we have a bunch of food to eat. I like this tradition because I have a lot of food too when there is no school.

One of the traditions that my family likes is spending time with us especially my mommy.

After spending time with our family, we get to open our stocking and our presents. Then we eat a family tradition food. And sometimes our grandpa comes over and spends the night at our house on the couch.

Something special, or important about my family’s tradition for Christmas is every year we play a lot of Christmas songs, and we have this little thing made with plastic, metal and wood.

They have a switch and you would put it on and the elves and the one Santa would make Christmas songs. They have bells and they would hit them. The set has a spring and a ball on the end to hit the bells.

They can play many songs, too. Our family also has an order who gets to put the star on top each year.

My family’s Christmas traditions are when some people like my grandma, grandpa, and uncle and some cousins come over to celebrate Christmas with us. We eat food that we make and we play games. Then we do other things.

But then the exciting part is when we get to open presents. I like it because when I go to my grandmas house. I get presents, same with My brother, Nixon and my Sister, Luci. Then our grandma, grandpa, and uncle bring presents to our house. Then we get some from Santa!

The reason why it’s important, is we get to be with family and friends and it’s really fun!

A family tradition my family does is listen to Christmas music. We listen to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Marty Robins. We also have Christmas at my grandparents house on Christmas Eve. We open presents and have dinner. Then on Christmas Day we celebrate Christmas at my house. We also put up a Christmas tree. We decorate it. My grandparents have a Christmas tree. We have a lot of family Traditions.

Me and my family like to go out to make a snow man and open gifts and slice all over the snow with a sled.

My Brother jumps in the cold water without his snow plants and snow boots.

A Christmas tradition is every Christmas Eve on my dad’s side my aunts and uncles come to Ipswich. Then at my grandma’s house we eat, talk, open gifts, and sometimes me and my cousin put on a play. The best thing is we all wear matching pajamas. My teenage cousin hates it. Everuone stays at my grandma’s. The second best thing is we eat popcorn and cookies while watching Home Alone. My favorite food at supper is the ham. The worst is oyster stew. The best dessert is apple pie. The sad thing is when they all leave. My aunt makes her secret salad. It is delicious.

Chloe

My traditions for Christmas is going to my Nina’s house, Grandma Barb’s house, my house and my Dad’s house. When Oliver and I go to my Dad’s house, we have Christmas at his mom’s house. My grandma makes a big meal.

At my Nina’s house we eat before we open present and I think we do it at every house we go to. We sometimes watch Christmas movies like The Grinch.

Serenity

A tradition that I like to do is we open one present before Christmas Eve. I love to do it because we get to choose which one to get big or small. Some time we all get the big one to upset our parents. After that we eat and then we will sit for a little and we go upstairs.

One of my family’s Christmas traditions is we have a big Christmas feast the day before Christmas. I like it because we can spend time with half of the family. The other half of the family we get together with the week before Christmas. On Christmas Day my grandma and my grandpa come to my house.

One of my family Christmas traditions is puting up the tree and stockings. For the tree we usually just stay with one color for the upstairs and for the down stairs we make things to put on the tree or we just do a lot of different color and put them on. For my dad’s house we have a big Christmas tree and we do red, gold and gray. For the star we do a gray deer head made out of plastic. For both the Christmas tree at my mom’s and dad’s house we do yellow lights. For the stocking at my dad’s house we have a little wooden tree that we put our stocking on and each of our stockings have the first letter of our name and at my mom’s house we just put it on the wall and we kow if it is ours by the color.

Riley

One family tradition my family does is secret Santa. All the cousins on my dad’s side do it. This year I got my cousin Ava. We all love this family tradition.

Another tradition we have is lump of coal saran wrap ball. We all love seeing the surprises. You get one minute to unwrap the hall. If you get a prize in your one minute you get to keep it. Then we trade at the end, but you don’t have to.

The only tradition that my family does that I remember is going to younger to older or going older to younger of opening Christmas presents. It is very important to me because it helps us not get our presents mixed up and we don’t open it at the same time and because while you wait, it is very exiting because you can’t wait to open your present. What is your favorite family tradition?

We put up a 2nd tree for me. My parent would put my presents under the Christmas tree. We sometimes see relatives.

A family tradition is my mom and I go shopping for Christmas stuff. We go to Walmart and walk around to see if there is anything that looks good. If we find somthing we will buy it. Then we would go to Menards and see all the Christmas decorations. Last year I got a Santa that sang “Old Town Road”. Then we got a blow up of Santa on his sled and reindeer. We also get tons of lights and signs. It’s important because I hardly get to see my mom because she lives in North Dakota.

One special thing we do at Christmas is we invent games and play them together. Another special thing we do is help our mom cook, and then we eat together with the whole family.
