The Funeral Service for Evelyn Pond, 79, of Ipswich, was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 27, 2021 at the United Church of Christ, Ipswich, with Pastor Tim Fugman officiating.

Evelyn passed away Monday, December 20, 2021, at her home.

Evelyn Jean Bierman was born on December 7, 1942 to Alvin and Pearl (Stroschein) Bierman near Scatterwood Lake, in Edmunds County. This is the area where she grew up and attended grade school. She attended high school in Ipswich and then enrolled at Huron College where she earned her Associates Degree.

On June 22, 1963 she was united in marriage to Robert Pond at Trinity Lutheran Church near Mansfield. Bob and Evie settled on a farm near Ipswich and raised three children.

Evelyn was very active with the United Church of Christ, both on a state and local level. She served as lay minister with the Prairie Lakes Association and as an officer in the women's organization of the South Dakota Conference. She worked as the secretary for the Ipswich UCC church for many years. She was instrumental in establishing the UCC bell choir and enjoyed singing in the church and community choirs.    She loved working with the children of the church, both as a Sunday school teacher and music leader.    She cherished time spent at Placerville camp and with the camp family.    Evie was a member of PEO, the Flower and Garden Club, Women's Fellowship and the Extension Club.

Evelyn enjoyed music, crafts, baking, crocheting, knitting, taking pictures, and above all being a grandma. She had a gift of hospitality and a heart for service, which was evident in her daily life where she always put others before herself.

Grateful for having shared Evelyn's life are her husband, Robert Pond; children, Noel (Carol) Pond, Jim (Melissa) Pond, Jeanie (Mike) McHugo; sister, Arlys Bierman; grandchildren, Megan (Jeremy) Hildebrandt, Cassius Pond, Kristi Pond, Benjamin Pond, Sam Pond, Mallory (Lewis) Renk, Molly (Jared) Zak, Ryan McHugo, Allison McHugo, Emily McHugo, Isaak McHugo, Grace McHugo, twins Eli and Noah McHugo and Jackson McHugo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marlene Stoner; and brothers, Ordean and Marvin Bierman.
