Ipswich Councilman Mike Hammrich said they have faced too many road blocks in their work to keep the nursing home operational in Ipswich.

The challenges included the finances and staffing. He said they have worked with many people, but after looking at all the factors they can’t make the numbers work.

“I worked with Avantara officials daily,” he said. They also wanted to find a way to keep the facility open.

But Hammrich said he did not want to ask local residents to donate and then have the nursing home close after only a year.
