Ipswich volleyball 1-1 in last week's action

VS. LANGFORD AREA

Ipswich made it look quite easy in a high school volleyball clash vs. Langford last Thursday in the Tiger Den.

The Tigers indeed swept LRC rival Langford 25-10, 25-14 and 25-16. They built a working lead in the opening set with a trio of aces by Madison Geditz that capped a seven point run, giving the Tigers a 14-4 edge at that juncture of the set.

Then Kaylin Onkens's kill provided the set point in set number two.

The third set and match point would then be a kill by Gracie Lange to complete the third set and match. Coach Osborne called that shot "a rocket down the line". Lange would lead the Tigers at the net with a 22-24 night including 12 kills. Next was Baylee Kulesa at 24-25 with seven kills and Quincy Olivier added a 12-14, 3 evening at the net.

Ipswich used 73 of 76 set attempts with 36 assists, led by Olivier 58-59 with 28 assists and Reaghan Bowers went 11-12 with five assists. Ipswich got things started with a 66 of 74 night at the service line that featured 13 aces. Olivier was 21-22 with six aces and Madison Geditz 15-18 with four aces.


Ipswich came up with 53 team digs, led by Madison Geditz with 22 digs and Vanesa Diaz with seven digs. The Tigers added one solo block and eight assisted. Marley Guthmiller led that effort with that solo and three assists.

The Tigers were scheduled to play North Central on Sept. 26 in Bowdle. They will host Faulkton Area on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

VS. POTTER COUNTY

Potter County defeated Ipswich in high school volleyball action last Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the Tiger Den. And the visitors did it the hard way, coming back from a 1-0 deficit.

The Battlers indeed lived up to their nickname and battled back to win three sets for a 3-1 lead.

Ipswich was able to win set number one with a Vanesa Diaz kill for a 25-21 win. But the Battlers would regroup to win set two 25-16, set three 25-18 and set four 25-19.

The Battlers obtained 43 kills in their 119 total hits, led by Tyler Simon with 12 kills. Ipswich ended up with 118 accurate hits that included 33 kills, paced by Gracie Lange, 52-61 with 14 kills. Next were Baylee Kulesa at 28-31 with seven kills and Diaz, 10-12, 4.

Ipswich distributed 122 sets that featured 26 assists, led by Quincy Olivier, 102-104 with 25 of those assists.

Ipswich finished 69-78 at the service line with nine aces. Lange went 12-14 with three aces and Kulesa, 18-18, 2. The visiting team landed eight aces, five of which were by Ashlee Kaup. She totaled 17 serves without a miss.

The Tigers were able to come away with 60 team digs, paced by Madison Geditz with 18 and Kulesa with 13. They added one solo block and six assisted. Kulesa led that aspect of the match with that solo block and one assist. Marley Guthmiller added two assisted blocks. The Battlers totaled 83 team digs, though and two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
