Tiger boys get wins on the road

The Ipswich boys basketball team made a pair of road trips into eastern S.D. and returned with two more wins.

They indeed defeated Wilmot 56-33 on Friday and topped Webster there 59-50 on Saturday. In that outing the hosts would hang around and make a game of it, trailing 17-16 at the first break and Ipswich would also narrowly lead 29-27 at intermission. But the Tigers would outscore their hosts for a more comfortable 46-37 edge with a quarter to play. And that margin would end up the same at the final buzzer.

Ipswich was led by Tyler Hettich with 16 points including two treys. Ian Beyers was next with 13 points and he featured a trio of treys. Their further scoring was really balanced with Chet Peterson contributing nine points and Trevor Heinz with eight points including Ipswich's remaining three-ball. Blake Rich added seven points and Carter Geditz, six points.

The Bearcats were led by Matthew Mount with 13 points and Ian Lesner with 12 counters, while six more Bearcats would enter their scoring column. They were able to shoot 18 of 43 from the floor and featured seven treys. They were 7-13 at the charity stripe. Ipswich countered with 19 total baskets including those six treys and finished 15-26 in free throw attempts.


The Tigers obtained 27 rebounds to help their cause, paced by Peterson with seven boards and Colby Sylte with six retrieves. The Tigers sustained 14 turnovers, but had four steals from Beyers among their 12 total steals. They also distributed 18 assists led by Heinz with six and Beyers with five.

Meanwhile, Ipswich would lead Wilmot 13-2 after a quarter and the rest was downhill. The Tigers indeed led 22-10 at intermission and 38-19 with a quarter to play.

Their scoring was led by Rich with 14 points, followed by Hettich also in double-figures with 11 points including three treys. Next would be Peterson with nine points and Beyers with eight points including one trey. Geditz added four points. Sylte, Heinz, Max Kulesa and Evan Onken each totaled two points and Tucker Kadlec and Turner Thorson each added a free throw. The Tigers made 24 floor shots including those four treys and were 4-10 in free throws.

The hosts obtained balanced scoring led by Keitrick Genia and Dennis Creadon each with eight points. They were 14-28 from the floor, all deuces and 5-11 in free throws.

Ipswich only had 11 turnovers in a well-played floor game while Wilmot would commit 21 miscues.

The Ipswich boys and girls hosted North Central on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The boys would host Faulkton Area on Friday, Jan. 20. The boys and girls would travel to Huron to face James Valley Christian on Saturday, Jan. 21.
