Ipswich hosted Wilmot for a non-conference girls' high school basketball confrontation last Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Tiger Den and the final score indicated that the Tigers were on top by two possessions - 43-37.

But it wasn't all that easy. For one thing an eighth-grade phenom Addison Heinje would personally outscore Ipswich 11-3 early in the opening quarter. (Those first three Tiger points, the first points in the game, were from a basket plus foul shot opportunity for Katie Bierman.)

"Number-15 (Addison Heinje) then got on a roll. Most of her points during that time came off of layups from steals and deflection," explained Ipswich coach Brian Hogie. "We did a great job of guarding her in the half-court set, but it was transitions that got her rolling. Second half we didn't turn the ball over as much, which allowed us to find her in the half-court set." She still led the Wolves (and all scorers for that matter) with 16 points that featured one trey.

And the Wolves would have another double-figure scorer in the person of Jada Cameron with 10 points that included a trio of treys. They added four points from Ashlyn Ebben, three points by Mya Heinje and two points each from Abigail Schwenn and Kayla Hamman.

But Ipswich countered with 14 points from Wald that included two treys. Next would be Bierman with her nine points and Karlie Gohl contributed eight points including two treys. Brianna Geditz ended up with four points and Ashlyn Weig and Marley Guthmiller each scored three points, followed by Anna Nierman with a two-point basket.

The hosts would finish with 17 total floor shots that included those four treys and were 5-15 in free throw chances. The visitors were able to total 13 baskets that featured their four treys and were 7-19 at the charity stripe.

Wilmot owned a 42 to 38 rebounding advantage, but Ipswich would be led by Kaylin Onken and Guthmiller with five rebounds apiece. The Tigers had 15 turnovers and Wilmot, 24. Some of those were directly from 19 Ipswich steals, led by Weig with five thefts.
