The Ipswich Tiger track and field program was alive and well at the Region 6B meet in Gettysburg last Thursday. That's because both the Tiger girls and boys teams placed first.

The IHS girls staved off runners-up Faulkton 144 to 128, but the Tiger boys simply overwhelmed second-place Herreid/Selby Area 198.5 to 84.

"This was the last region meet for SD schools and the Tigers really had a great day," exclaimed coach Todd Thorson. He agreed that the girls were able to score some crucial points in their last three events, especially in the 200 and 3200!

But one of the early events for Ipswich would have to be the pole vault! The Tiger boys and girls each went 1-2-3 there for 24 unanswered points. The boys were led by Brody Davis at 11-07.00, followed by Darrel Yost in second at 11-04.00 and Rasmus Loken was third at 11-01. That girls outcome saw Marley Guthmiller in first at 9-04.00, Quincy Olivier second in 8-04.00 and Jalyssa Hutson was third at 8-04.00 as well.

Trevor Heinz won a pair of boys' events, the 100-meter dash in 11.54 and the long jump at 21-09.00.

Ian Beyer was first in the 800-meter run clocked at 2:0.67. The boys added one relay victory in the 4x800 at 8:59.57 ran by Turner Thorson, Ian Beyers, Casey Geditz and Maxwell Kulesa.

Some additional boys' field event winners were impressive as well. For instance Lucas Rowland won the shot put at 44-11.75 and Tyler Hettich won the high jump measured at 6-01.00.

Now for the girls, Guthmiller was indeed that ulttimate pole vault victor and Ashley Ptacek won the triple jump at 31-05.25. The girls' relay team of Brianna Geditz, Gracie Lange, Vanesa Diaz and Ashley Ptacek were also first in 54.27.
