Daniel P. Lingor, 73, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home.
A Memorial Service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ryan Drevlow and Rev. Jacob Smith officiating.
Daniel Paul Lingor was born on January 8, 1951, to Dan and Esther (Dahme) Lingor in Aberdeen. He was the oldest of eight children. Dan graduated from Aberdeen Central, where he was a State Pole Vault Champion.
He later graduated from Northern State University, but not before he met his wife, Jean Johnson. For several years, he played 16" slow-pitch softball for Dahme Construction. He and Jean traveled to state and national tournaments with the team. It was a great time with great friends, and memories were made!
Dan and Jean moved to Bristol, where Dan taught for one year. They then moved to Aberdeen, where Dan laid flooring, something he had done since high school. The family moved to Mina Lake and started their family. They welcomed two beautiful daughters, Nicole and Janell. The girls attended school in Ipswich, and Danny attended their many activities both at the school and at the lake.
He was a self-employed floor installer and shared his knowledge and talent with his younger brothers, Greg and Roger. Danny and Roger worked together for many years. Danny had a great work ethic and was very proud of their work. His daughters were lucky to inherit those traits as well. Danny taught in Forbes, N.D., for a year and sought to rest his body next, but he went back to laying floors.
Danny was a true people person. He had a genuine interest in everyone he met; strangers were just friends he hadn't met yet. Danny had a great sense of humor and was a pleasant person to be around. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, traveling, chasing grandchildren and their activities, and frequenting a casino or two. His only regret was that he wouldn't see his grandchildren grow up and the paths they would take in life. Danny always said he was genuinely blessed despite fighting health issues for years.
After Dan and Jean retired, they moved to Aberdeen after enjoying lake life for 30 years at Mina Lake. They then started spending winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., at a wonderful resort called Roadhaven. They did, however, have to take one winter off as Danny had to do proton therapy in Rochester, Minn. They stayed at Hope Lodge. He had his knees replaced, and one ankle fused, along with all the cancer treatments, including operations, radiations, chemotherapies, and two trips to Istanbul, Turkey. Danny battled prostate cancer for 16 years. He met many excellent health providers he lovingly called his "other family." Special thanks need to be given to June Heinz and her staff at Ipswich Health, Dr. Eugene Kwon, his "quarterback," and his team at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, who kept him going all these years, and the girls on the 2nd floor (he called his "other daughters") at Sanford in Aberdeen for all their support and guidance. Danny was a walking miracle, and at one point, he had a Dr. tell him that they didn't know what to do with him because most people don't live this long with what he had endured. It came to a point in October of 2024 that there was nothing more they could do. The cancer had spread, and no treatments were working. The next step was hospice, which provided another group of excellent caregivers. His family and friends have been terrific through everything. Danny knew why he was truly blessed now. So many people called or came to see him, and Danny held onto his positive attitude through all of it. He truly experienced the power of prayer from many of you.
Dan was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and an advisory member regarding flooring. He was also very active with the NESD Walleye Club, where he helped teach children to fish and aided in fundraising. Many of you may have purchased a walleye ticket or two. Danny hoped they would draw your name out next year, but he won't be able to deliver your winnings, which he truly enjoyed. Danny was also a Rolling Hills golf course member, especially enjoying the Wednesday morning senior league. He will also miss his morning coffee buddies.
Dan was incredibly proud of his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. He was so glad he could take them all on a Hawaiian Cruise to celebrate his and Jean's 50th wedding anniversary – a trip to remember! 1-4-3
Danny is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean of Aberdeen; daughters: Nicole (Andy) Carr of Vermillion, and Janell (Brad) Pinkman of Aberdeen; three grandchildren, Jeran Carr, Bailey Carr, and Brelynn Pinkman; seven siblings, Doug (Robbie) Lingor of Jacksonville, Fla., Patti Maunu, Greg (Doris Bell) Lingor, Sharon (Dennis) Ragels, Carol (Randy) Pueppke, Roger (Marcie Weigel) Lingor, all of Aberdeen, and Dave (Shelley) Lingor of St. John's Fla .; four aunts, Joyce Dahme, Barbara Dahme, Fran Lingor, and Margaret Lingor; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Jody Berg; sisters-in-law, Laurie Lingor and Pam Lingor; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and very close friends.
