Relay for Life Friday at Ipswich track

 


The 2018 Edmunds County Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 in the Ipswich Athletic Complex.

The Survivor Reception will begin at 5 p.m. at the Athletic Complex on Friday. You and your caregiver can indulge in refreshments and fellowship and meet other cancer survivors at a special tent near the track. At 5:50 they will assemble for the Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Survivors will be introduced and walk or ride in a golf cart in the “Victory Lap” and then be joined by family and caregivers for the second lap.

Other activities will also begin at 5 p.m. including the Relay Store, Basket Auction, and Luminary sales.

Luminaries honoring cancer survivors or those who lost their battle will line the track at the Ipswich Athletic Complex. The candles in them are lit and the names are read at 9:45 p.m.

Luminaries are available at several locations in the county: FEM Electric, Edmunds County Abstract and Ipswich Tribune in Ipswich or in Roscoe at Roscoe Hardware. They are also available at the event.

This year’s theme is “Cancer is Not a Game.” A variety of games will be set up for you to enjoy all evening.

Dedication Laps are planned beginnning at 7 p.m. contact Nichol or Trent Osborne with your request: Trent at 380-6894 or Nichol at 380-0859. Fun laps are planned throughout the evening including the Disco Lap at 8 p.m., Team Lap at 9 p.m., Poker Run Lap at 10:30 p.m. Sponsor Lap at 11:15 p.m., Glow Lap at 11:50 p.m.

The Relay will conclude at midnight. To celebrate the milestone, a fireworks display will accompany the final lap.

The Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society®. Donations are used to fund life-saving cancer research, patient support services, prevention and education information, and detection and treatment programs.

Concession Stand

Workers are needed for the concession stand. Consider donating a couple hours of your time to help with this worthwhile event. Donations of bars would also be appreciated.
