Two wins for Lady Tigers last week

Ipswich swept its two girls' high school basketball games last week, both non-conference. The Lady Tigers topped EC 53-32 on Tuesday in Roscoe and also won a 48-38 homecourt verdict over Herreid/Selby Area on Friday evening in the Tiger Den.

At Roscoe, Ipswich jumped ahead 18-5 after a quarter and each team scored 13 points in the second quarter. Ipswich then won the third quarter 17-8 to comfortably lead, even though the hosts won the final eight-minute span 6-5.

Ipswich utilized a game-high 20 points from Halle Heinz and she featured four of Ipswich's seven treys. Next was Kamryn Heinz with 12 points, including two treys, followed by Abby Grabowska with eight points and Sydney Loken with seven points. Also credit Bailey Hammrich with a trey, Chesney Olivier with two points and Tessa Kilber with a free throw.

Edmunds Central was paced by Brianna Moen's seven points in a balanced scoring effort by the Lady Raiders. Madison Crawford and Paola Duran were next with six points each.


The Lady Tigers totaled 21 floor shots and were 4-7 at the free throw line. The Lady Raiders made 12 overall floor shots, including a pair of treys with a 6-7 free throw effort. Kamryn Heinz captured seven of Ipswich's 26 rebounds and also dished out six assists. Ipswich committed only 10 turnovers, while helping to force a total of 21 by EC (15 steals). Abby Grabowska led Ipswich with four steals.

Against Herreid/Selby Area, meanwhile, the Lady Tigers won the first quarter 12-11 and increased that razor-thin lead to two points, 23-21 at intermission. But Ipswich outscored its visitors 18-11 in the third quarter and 7-6 in the final quarter for the eventual 10-point lead. The Lady Tigers' largest lead in the second half had been 41-27 after an Olivier rebound put-back.

Ipswich was led this time by Kamryn Heinz with 20 points and that was game-high, as well. Also credit her with three of her team's seven treys and Halle Heinz also netted a trio of treys on the way to a 13-point evening. She also distributed six of her team's 12 assists. Abby Grabowska added six points, Kilber, five and Olivier, four.

Rachel Fiedler led the visitors with 19 points. They made 13 floor shots, including three treys and were 9-12 at the free throw line. Ipswich responded with 18 total baskets and included a 5-8 free throw night. Ipswich captured 32 rebounds, edging its visitors by one and Kamryn Heinz grabbed nine of them.

Each team sustained 18 turnovers, but Ipswich offset its miscues with 16 steals led by Halle Heinz with five.

The Lady Tigers, 9-3, will join the Tiger boys hosting Miller on January 31. Then on February 2 at 2 p.m. the Lady Tigers will play Phillip in Highmore and will host Waubay/Summit in a girls-only makeup game on February 5 in the Tiger Den.
