The SD Game Fish and Parks, along with the Edmunds and McPherson County 4-H, had a Get Outdoors Day on Saturday, June 15.

The morning started out at the Leola Trap Shoot. Conservation Officer Jenna Capper taught the first class on trapping.Topics discussed were kinds of traps, different kinds of animals trapped in this area, and looking at pelts of animals.

Next, the campers split into two groups that went to .22 rifles and trap shooting. These classes were taught by Conservation Officers Shane Pedersen, Clyde Lehr, Eric Voigt and Capper. McPherson County Sharp Shooter coaches Mike and Jodi Kallas, Jeff and Susie Berreth, and Troy and Kelli Millard were also there to help.

After everyone had a chance to shoot, the group loaded up and went to Lundquist Dam north of Leola. Fishing was the topic at the new location. One group learned about fishing and were able to fish. The other group learned how to clean a fish, how to fry fish, and how to enjoy eating them. Everyone was able to participate in both activities.

Lunch was served by Nancy Berreth and Kristin Schauer. Other volunteers who helped make the day successful were Amber Beyers and John Bender.
