Ipswich/Edmunds Central dropped a 36-28 LRC High School football decision in Faulkton last Friday. To say the least, it was close!!!

The hosts narrowly led at each respective quarter-ending — 14-6, 28-14 and 28-20 and each team scored eight points in the final stanza.

Ipswich/EC utilized three rushing TDs, led by two from Carson Gohl and the other from Carter Heinz. Their other score came via the airwaves from Ethan Gilbert to Kaden Hix covering five yards.

The Tigers added two successful conversion plays — Gohl on the ground and Gilbert to Heinz.

I/EC got a balanced offensive attack, establishing their ability to run and then some. The Tigers earned 189 rushing yards, led by Gohl with 99 on 11 carries. Heinz was next with 44 followed by Luke Peterson also in double-figures with 28 ground yards.

Gilbert, last week’s Aberdeen American News Athlete of the Week, finished 7-17 through the air for 67 more yards. Matthew Hettich caught two passes for 51 yards, the longest of which was 46 yards.

The team only sustained one fumble loss and one interception, which helped keep things close.

Defensively, I/EC made 76 total tackles of which 44 were solos. It was a balanced effort led by Josh McQuarie with 15, Hettich with 12 and Heinz also in double figures with 10. Gohl included I/EC’s lone sack and Hettich snared a 20-yard interception.

Ipswich/EC dropped to 2-3 in League play and 3-4 overall. The Tigers will next host Herreid/Selby Area on Friday, Oct. 11 in Ipswich. Meanwhile the Trojans, coached by IHS grad Shayne Geditz, improved to 3-3 and will then travel to Sully Buttes on Oct. 11.
