Ipswich had mixed results in a pair of recent boys' basketball outcomes. The Tiger boys indeed outscored Ethan 61-52 in a classic in Huron on January 3 and then a night later they dropped a non-conference outcome 59-50 to Waubay/Summit on Saturday evening in Waubay.

Versus Ethan, Ipswich doubled the Rustlers 18-9 in the opening quarter and still led 32-24 at the half. But Ethan turned the tables with a 21-13 third-quarter scoring edge that would put the game up for grabs. Ipswich restored order, though, with a 16-7 advantage down the stretch that put the game out of reach.

The Tigers fueled their victory with a balanced scoring effort led by Will Kadlec with 19 points, including a pair of treys and Ty Kadlec with 16 points that featured three treys. Their third double-figurer scorer would become Maxwell Geditz with 14 points including the most treys that game, four. (He also led his team in assists with three.)

Ethan Gilbert was next with five points that included a trey and Jordan Richardt added Ipswich's other trey for his three points. You may also credit Josh McQuarie and Taylor Thorson with a basket apiece.

Ethan's leading scorer would become Brady Hawkins with 29 points, which would also prove to be the game-high scoring honors. Josh Bartscher was next with 13 points, but only three other Ethan players scored.

The Tigers shot 24-49 from the floor and 11 of those were in three-ball land. They were 2-4 at the free throw line. Ethan countered with a 19-55 floor-shot effort that included six treys and was 8-14 at the line.

Ipswich collected 31 rebounds led by the Kadlec brothers with four rebounds apiece. But Ethan came away with 33. Ipswich protected the basketball well with only seven turnovers, compared to Ethan's 15. Nine of them were from Tiger steals, led by Ty Kadlec with five thefts.

Ipswich had trailed 13-11 after a quarter and sustained a 30-21 deficit at intermission. The hosts would then double Ipswich 14-7 in the third stanza and the Tigers were indeed able shave their final deficit under double-figures to nine points.

Ipswich was led by Will Kadlec with 13 points, including two treys and Ty Kadlec was again next with 11 points, featuring a lone trey. Geditz scored seven points with a trey and Richardt was next with six points courtesy of a pair of treys. And McQuarie tallied four points. Gilbert added three points on a trey. Taylor Thorson again had two points, as did Tucker Green and Carter Geditz.

Waubay/Summit countered with balanced scoring led by Matt Amdahl with 15 points and Tate Gaikowski with 12. (Six other players scored.)

Ipswich shot 20-60 from the floor that included those seven trays and finished 3-6 at the line. The hosts were 23-29 overall also including seven treys and went 6-10 at the line.

Ipswich was out-rebounded 39-32, despite eight from Ty Kadlec. Meanwhile, Ipswich sustained only five turnovers; their hosts, eight in a very well-played floor game by both teams.

The Tiger boys along with the IHS girls are scheduled to play a LRC twinbill in Warner on January 9. The boys will return home against another league rival, Aberdeen Christian on January 11.
