Tuesday is Primary Election day in state

 


The South Dakota primary election is Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

Application forms for absentee ballots were sent to registered voters earlier. Electors planning to vote at balloting sites should be there during the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Registered Republican voters will elect two District 23 Representatives and a Senator.

Candidates for State Senator in the District 23 are Bryan Breitling of Miller and Larry Nielson of Tulare. Incumbant John Lake chose not to run again. The winner of the primary will be on the November ballot facing independent candidate CJ Abernathy of Eureka.

Four candidates are vying for two openings for State Representative. You can vote for two of the four candidates: Kevin Watts of Miller, Spencer Gosch of Glenham, Charlie Hoffman of Eureka and James Wangsness of Miller. Gosch and Wangsness are the incumbents. The winners will have no competition in November.

Republican voters in Precincts #4 and #6 will elect a County Commissioner. Republican candidates are Dennis Hoyle, the incumbent, and Chad Preszler. The winner will not have competition in November.

There are also Republican candidates at the top of the ticket. U.S. Senator Mike Rounds is facing Scyller Borglum to be the candidate in November.

Incumbent U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson faces Liz Marty May to be the Republican candidate in November.

The Democratic ballot has only one contest on it: Presidenial candidates Bernie Sanders or Joseph Biden.

The polling places for the election are:

Precinct #1 – The M Station - Mina (Townships: Clear Lake, Cortlandt, Kent, Pembrook, Richland and Union).

Precinct #2 – 4-H Building in Ipswich (City of Ipswich; less residents North of US Hwy 12 and East of 4th Street).

Precinct #3 – 4-H Building in Ipswich (Townships: Adrian, Belle, Cleveland, Fountain, Harmony, Huntley, Ipswich, Liberty, Powell, Rosette, and the Northeast section of Ipswich City (North of US Hwy 12 and East of 4th Street)).

Precinct #4 – Roscoe Fire Hall (Townships: Bryant, Glen, Glover, Montpelier, North Bryant, Vermont and the City of Roscoe)

Precinct #5 – Bowdle Fire Hall (Townships: Bowdle, Cloyd Valley, Cottonwood Lake, Hillside, Hudson, Madison, Modena, Odessa and the City of Bowdle)

Precinct #6 – Hosmer Fire Hall (Townships: Hosmer, Sangamon and the City of Hosmer).
