Ipswich won a high school volleyball clash of the Tigers last Tuesday in Groton. The Tigers from Groton were defeated 3-1 on their home court.

Ipswich had captured a relatively easy 25-15 win of its first set, but guess what, the hosts edged Ipswich 26-24 in the second set to even the match at 1-1. But from then on there was no stopping the visiting Tigers. The IHS Tigers indeed won the third set 25-16 and then the fourth set with a 25-16 verdict, as well, to clinch the match!

Ipswich received impressive net play with a 103-132 43-kills evening. Hailey Bierman went 28-35 with nine kills to lead the way, followed by Paige Mehlberg, 16-22 with a dozen kills and then Lindsey Grabowska also doing some damage at 14-20 with six kills. Ipswich's net play also featured two solo blocks from Mehlberg and one solo by Halie Feldman.

The IHS Tigers distributed 128 sets in 131 tries and featured 41 assists. Two girls primarily handled those duties -- Halle Heinz at 55-58 with 16 assists and Bailey Pitz 47-47 with 18 assists.

The service line was also an effective place to be for Ipswich. The IHS Tigers finished 86-94 in serving with nine aces. They were paced by Chesney Olivier's error free evening of 20 serving attempts that included two aces. And Grabowska at 14-17 also featured a pair of aces.

Ipswich came up with 111 team digs, led by Chesney Olivier with 34 and Grabowska with 21.

That non-conference victory improved the IHS Tigers varsity record to 3-0 at that juncture of the season.
