Sacred Relics of the Saints: Treasures of the Church

Holy Cross Parish is presenting a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics on Saturday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m.

The presentation begins in the church at 3:30 p.m. The Exhibition in the Hall opens after the presentation at 4:30 p.m.

Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross will be here with an extraordinary Vatican collection of over 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years.

Among the treasures will be relics of St. Joseph, St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the "Little Flower"), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. There will also be one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world.

Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. Throughout history and as recorded in the Bible, many healings have been worked in the presence of relics; and many have been come about through this ministry.

You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members, which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of prayerful intercession.

Treasures of the Church is a ministry of evangelization of the Catholic Church and is run by Fr. Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross religious congregation. Its purpose is to give people an experience of the living God through an encounter with the relics of his saints in the form of an exposition.

Each exposition begins with a multimedia presentation on the Church's use of relics that is scriptural, catechetical, and devotional, leading to a renewal of the faith for many people.

After the teaching those in attendance will have an opportunity to venerate the relics of some of their favorite saints.
