Wrestler earns state championship

Six Ipswich Area wrestlers competed in the Middle School South Dakota Wrestling Championships on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023. The tournament was held in TF Riggs High School Gym in Pierre.
Sophia Knittel won first place in the Girls Division. She won by fall over a Harrisburg wrestler, then won a major decision 18-7 over a Spearfish wrestler. In the championship match she won by decision over a Douglas wrestler, 3-2. She scored 23 team points.
Edison Unser, Chance Miller, Gavin Horst, Clayton Horst, and Weston Weisser did not place in the state competition.
Edison scored 4 team points and Clayton scored 6 points.
Boys and girls in grades six, seven and eight competed in 21 weight classes.
