Calvin Gramm

Calvin Ivan Gramm, age 87, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

Calvin was born on November 25, 1936, to Benjamin and Ella (Neifer) Gramm in Hosmer. He graduated from Hosmer High School in 1954.

After high school, he joined the Navy serving our country for six years from 1956-1962, which included a year spent in Japan and two years serving in the reserve. After military service, he attended Northern State in Aberdeen, SD, obtaining a Business Administration Degree which landed him a job in the insurance field taking him to Milwaukee Wis.

In 1969, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Steffen (originally from West Point, NE) whom he met in Milwaukee. They started their family in Milwaukee and were blessed with five children. In 1984, they moved back to South Dakota. With a short stint in Aberdeen, the family made Sioux Falls their home where they continued to raise their children.

Cal worked for various insurance companies throughout his professional career until 1999. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed watching western shows, playing the organ, listening to polka music, solving crossword puzzles, and playing baseball on the Nintendo.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, of Sioux Falls; his children, Steve Gramm of Pierre, Carol (Jason) Overby of Brookings, Ellen Gramm of Sioux Falls, Sharon (Keith) Voss of Sioux Falls and Jeff Gramm of Pierre; and three grandchildren, Madison, Tanner, and Kylie; his brothers, James Gramm of Cary Ill. and Gary (Sally) Gramm of Brookings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Ella, his father Benjamin, and his two sisters-in-law, Marie Gramm and Betty Gramm.
