Bulow proclaims Friday, April 11 Arbor Day

In accordance with the custom adopted by other states in years past and which practice has become established in this state, I W.J. Bulow, do hereby designate Friday April 11, 1930 as Arbor and Bird Day, and in full approval of the purposes of this custom I again urge upon the people of South Dakota the necessity and the duty of taking a more active interest in tree culture and the preservation of game and song birds.

There should be more than a general interest in Arbor Day this year due to the increased interest in tree planting and culture by the various state and civic organizations, that in so doing are assisting in making our state from year to year still more beautiful and attractive. I especially recommend that those in charge of the schools in the state use every effort to impress upon the rising generations the real value of our forests, shade trees and birds, to the end that South Dakota may not suffer the irreparable loss that will surely come to the communities that fail to give constant and intelligent protection to these invaluable gifts of nature.

In testimony whereof, I have here unto set my hand and have caused the Great Seal of the State of South Dakota to be affixed.
