The Ipswich girls' basketball varsity closed out a busy week with a pair of road wins. They shut down Webster 64-52 in Webster Saturday after a decisive 61-21 LRC conference win at Langford the night before.

A highlight of the win over the Bearcats was that Halle Heinz tallied 37 points which tied the school record held by her own sister Kamryn. She included all four of her team's three-pointers as well as four free throws.

Nothing was settled in the first quarter that ended in a 11-11 tie. But Ipswich would then win each remaining quarter enroute to its 12-point win. The Tiger girls indeed edged their hosts 17-16 in the second stanza for a narrow 28-27 cushion at halftime. Ipswich then also won the third-quarter scoring outcome 16-10, as well as the final quarter 20-15 for the eventual 12-point victory.

Ipswich also landed Chesney Olivier onto the double-figure scoring plateau with 11 points and Katie Bierman was nearly there with her nine points. Lindsey Grabowska, Hailey Bierman and Kate Geditz also chipped in with two points each.

Ipswich totaled 24 floor shots that included those four treys and finished 11-23 at the free throw line.

The Tiger girls utilized 37 rebounds led by Katie Bierman with nine, so only one point and one rebound away from a double-double. Heinz and Chesney Olivier were next with six rebounds each. Ipswich had 14 turnovers but came away with 19 steals to more than compensate for the miscues. And Heinz had seven of those thefts.

Ipswich vs. Langford Area

Versus Langford Area, the Tiger girls jumped out to a quick 15-2 halftime edge and were still ahead 33-8 at intermission. It was more of the same in the second half with Ipswich compiling a 17-5 scoring surplus during the third quarter and a 11-8 fourth-quarter edge for the final 61-21 margin.

Ipswich was also led by Heinz with 35 points that evening, including five three-point baskets along with a 4 of 6 night at the charity stripe. Next was Katie Bierman with 12 points, followed by Grabowska with four points. Ashton Loken and Bailey Pitz each added a three-ball for their three point scoring contributions. And you may also credit Hailey Bierman and Geditz with a basket apiece.

Ipswich made 24 field goals that included the seven treys. And the Tiger girls shot 6-13 at the free throw stripe. Also advancing the Tigers' cause was 21 rebounds, paced by Heinz with five grabs. She also collected seven of her team's 20 steals, followed closely by Katie Bierman with five. But Ipswich did sustain 18 turnovers.

Ipswich remained undefeated on the year at that point in time but was scheduled to face Waubay/ Summit on Dec. 22 on the road and was next scheduled for a Big Bo Classic appearance in Wolsey on December 30. The girls and boys will both play Wolsey Wessington. The girls varsity game starts at 2 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow.
