Ty Kadlec (4) in basketball action against Warner in the Tiger Den last week.

Lake Region Conference basketball can be quite physical and defense dominated and that was certainly true when the Warner boys invaded the Tiger Den here last Tuesday. And when it was all said and done, the visitors would escape with a 46-33 victory.

But Ty Kadlec's trey had opened scoring, followed by a Warner basket. Eric Severson then got free underneath and Kadlec converted a steal into a solo breakaway layup for a brief 7-2 five-point Tiger edge.

That's because Warner would soon grab its own 11-7 first-quarter-ending lead with a nine-point run. And the Monarchs would expand their lead to 11 points, 18-7 before Josh McQuarie would break the scoring drought and obtain Ipswich's lone second-quarter score with a layup. That still left the Tigers down 18-9 going into their locker room.

The Tigers would hang around within striking distance, trailing 30-15 at the third break and were then able to briefly shave that deficit to nine points, 41-32, late in the contest, thanks to another Kadlec trey. Ipswich would actually win the fourth-quarter scoring battle 18-16! (Warner's biggest lead in the game had been 17 points, 30-13.)

The visitors were led by Landon Leidholt's game-high 23 points and Chase Braun was next with nine points. Only three other Monarchs got into their scorebook that evening.

Kadlec would finish the contest with 14 points and that would include four treys. McQuarie added seven points featuring Ipswich's remaining trey. Taylor Thorson and Severson each scored five points and Carson Gohl a basket.

The Monarchs were able to make 16 baskets that included two treys and were 12-20 in free throw tries. Ipswich made 12 baskets including those five treys and was 4-6 at the charity stripes but just didn't get there all that often.

Warner utilized 30 rebounds, while Ipswich actually came away with 32. (The Tigers had a balanced rebounding effort paced by Thorson's five.)

Another very close statistic was that both teams finished with 13 turnovers. Kadlec led Ipswich with three steals.

ihs vs. herreid/selby

Ipswich came out firing in a boys' high school showdown here last Friday to grab an impressive 61-43 victory over Herreid/Selby Area. The non-conference match-up featured a pair of Region 2B opponents.

Ipswich charged out to a 16-11 first-quarter lead capped by a Matt Hettich buzzer-beater layup.

The last possession of the half also proved to be productive for the Tigers with Taylor Thorson's trey at the buzzer. That sent Ipswich to their locker room with a 32-23 halftime edge.

Ipswich would then grab its initial double-figure lead, 34-23, with an Eric Severson basket underneath. And the Tigers finished with a 16-12 third quarter scoring edge. They also won the final stanza 29-20 to win going away.

Ipswich was led by Josh McQuarie with 15 points that included one trey. Next was Matt Hettich with 14 points. Thorson would finish with nine points, nearly in double-figures, including a trey.
