Fiddlin' Around

One done and one to go! That of course would be last weekend's State B track and field meet in Rapid City and the upcoming State B golf tourney in Brookings, where the Tiger boys will have a full team and hopefully very much in the individual and team hunt. (There will be one Tiger girl, Halie Feldman and also one Edmunds Central boy, Cole Bukaske.)

Congratulations to all our area placers at the big B last week, highlighted by Ipswich seventh-grader Marley Guthmiller's individual pole vault championship and to the entire IHS program for winning the combined girls/boys team championship. (There were around 80 Class B teams with at least one thinclad that weren't able to accomplish that feat.)

And the Ipswich and North Central track and field competitors who didn't come away with a top-eight finish shouldn't feel too disappointed. Those state meet always offer some serious competition with participants from every area of the state and 2021 was no different. (And you still might have at least achieved a personal best in your favorite event, if not in the Top Eight!)

The long Memorial Day weekend was a great time to get caught up on yard work. Like pulling weeds out of your garden plot! We started with one blade of crab grass and the entire yard came unraveled. It had a intricate root network that was all connected. Luckily it had rained enough earlier in the week so that the ground was still on the muddy side. Or the remaining grass would have been even harder to pull.

Now if it will just keep raining from time to time. I've heard somewhere that if it is warm and sunny on Memorial Day, a hot and dry summer will follow. So we'll hope that is not true!
